Event Guide for White Lake – August 2019

White Lake Community Picnic

Thursday, August 1st @ 6pm – 8pm

Kicking off August is the White Lake Community Picnic in Goodrich Park, Downtown Whitehall. This fundraising event will feature delicious hot dog and brats for all, music, games for the kids (including an old-fashioned penny scramble in foam), and much more!

White Lake Chamber Music Festival

Friday, August 2nd – Sunday, August 11th

Each year, White Lake welcomes renowned and talented musicians from around the world to play nearly 200 concerts, recitals, master classes, open rehearsals, and lectures in our community. Each event is hosted by a local business or church, and many free concerts are available in addition to those that require tickets.

This year is the event’s 10th anniversary. Come enjoy the beautiful music of groups such as The Gaudete Brass Quintet, The Avalon String Quartet, The Detroit Symphony Trio, and many other amazing artists.

Montague Farmers Market

Every Saturday & Wednesday in August, 9am – 12:30pm

Montague Farmers Market boasts delicious, straight-from-the-farm produce, yummy baked goods, fresh flowers and plants, and much more.

The market is located on the southeast corner of Church Street and Water Street. August dates for the market are as follows (hours are always 9am to 12:30pm):

Beer and Music Fundraising Event

Friday, August 9th @ 6pm – 8:30pm

Fetch Brewing of Downtown Whitehall will be hosting a fundraising event for the preservation and maintenance of the beloved White River Light Station. The event will feature live music from Catfish and the Man as well as delicious local brews straight from Fetch Brewing. Wine and water will also be available for purchase.

Jeffrey the Camel’s Birthday at Lewis Farms & Petting Zoo

Saturday, August 10th @ 9am – 6pm

It’s Jeffrey the Camels 12th birthday! And the folks at Lewis Farms & Petting Zoo are celebrating with an all-day event that will feature face painting from 1pm to 3pm, live music from 1pm to 5pm, the cutting of Jeffrey’s birthday cake at 2:30pm (cake is for everyone!), a Candy Cannon Shoot at 5pm, and more!

A Corn Roast all-you-can-eat meal will also be served from 11am to 5:30pm. Adult meals are $9.95. Meals for children 10 and under are $6.95.

ACWL – Nuveen Free Summer Concert Series

Music at the Light, Featuring Fremont John

Friday, August 16th @ 7pm

Bring your chairs or a blanket and enjoy the soulful baritone vocals of Fremont John at White River Light Station.

This 144-year-old lighthouse is a landmark in White Lake. Each summer, concerts and events on the station lawn bring in guests from around the state. And don’t forget — inside the station, you’ll find a museum with paintings, photos, and artifacts all about Michigan and the Great Lakes’ rich maritime history. It’s a great place to visit for the whole family.

The museum is open Monday through Sunday, from 10am to 5pm.

Storytime at White River Light Station

Wednesday, August 21st @ 11am – noon

Families with kids won’t want to miss Ms. Heidi presenting a special storytime event at White River Light Station. Hear a spellbinding story, then enjoy music, games, and more in this quaint lakeside location.

Montague Artisan Market

Saturday, August 24th @ 9am – noon

On the last Saturday of each month, the City of Montague puts on a unique Artisan Market for all to enjoy. Stop by to shop handmade items of all sorts — it’s a great way to bring something special home from your trip to White Lake!

Sunflower Festival at Lewis Farms & Petting Zoo

Saturday, August 31st @ 9am – 6pm

Head to Lewis Farms & Petting Zoo to enjoy their sea of stunning yellow sunflowers! This festival is the first of its kind at Lewis Farms. As usual, the petting zoo and other attractions will also be open for children and their families to enjoy.

Wally Wojack Memorial Rodeo

Saturday, August 31st – Sunday September 1st @ 7am – pm

In honor and memory of Wally Wojack, late owner of Double JJ Resort and founder of the Electric Forest music festival, Double JJ will be hosting The Wally Wojack Memorial Rodeo. Come for two back-to-back nights of rodeos, team roping, barrel racing, and other events. Live music and dancing will take place at the Double JJ Resort’s Wagon Wheel on both nights.
