Here’s the Best Way to Experience Fall Foliage in White Lake
Fall colors are already arriving in White Lake and Muskegon County, and now’s the perfect time to plan your trip!
Leave the city behind, and get away Up North to experience fall in style! Peak days to see the changing leaves are October 10th through October 17th. The annual Depot to Depot Color Tour starts October 5th, and both Pumpkinfest and Fetch Fest 2019 are scheduled for October 12th in downtown Whitehall and Montague.
Below, we’ve outlined everything you need to know to enjoy these fun fall events!
15th Annual Depot to Depot Fall Color Tour
The Depot to Depot Fall Color Tour is celebrating its fifteenth year!
This self-guided tour, sponsored by the visitors bureaus of White Lake and Muskegon, stretches from the White River Light Station to the Muskegon South Pierhead Light. The route features numerous designated stops at cafes, museums, shops, and more. Experience the tour by car or by bike.
Like other color tours throughout the state, anyone can enjoy the prearranged route at any time. Maps can be obtained at either The Muskegon Union Depot or the White Lake Area Chamber Train Depot.
However, if you want *tour perks* you’ll want to take the tour on one of the following dates:
- Saturday, October 5th @ 10 am – 4 pm
- Saturday, October 12th @ 10 am – 4 pm
- Saturday, October 19th @ 10 am – 4 pm
This will enable you to take advantage of the following benefits (in addition to witnessing the brilliant foliage colors of a West Michigan fall!):
- Free fall refreshments
- Free pumpkins for children
- Free coupons to area businesses
- Free Visit Muskegon postcards
- Chances to win weekly giveaways, sponsored by the visitors bureau
- The opportunity to win 2 round-trip passes for the Lake Express High-Speed Ferry between Muskegon and Milwaukee, also sponsored by the visitors bureau

Don’t Miss Pumpkinfest and Fetch Fest 2019 — Both on Saturday, October 12th
Coordinate your Up North trip to coincide with October 12th and have double the fun!
Both Pumpkinfest and Fetch Fest 2019 will take place Saturday, October 12th. Each event includes tons of fun, music, food, and fall festivities. While the annual Pumpkinfest celebration is ideal for families and children (though all are welcome!), Fetch Fest is a great fall event for adults who love tasty, locally-brewed craft beer and live music.

Pumpkinfest is one of our most beloved fall events here in White Lake. Naturally, you’ll find a splendor of pumpkin-inspired events at the festival, including:
- Pumpkin weigh-ins
- Pumpkin painting
- Pumpkin carving
- Pumpkin seed spitting contest
- The famous Pumpkin Roll
The festival will also feature food vendors, a bake sale, face painting, an apple cider mill, hay rides, an arts & crafts fair, farmer’s market vendors, and much more — don’t miss it!
Fetch Fest 2019
When: Saturday, October 12, 2019 @ 5 pm – 11 pm
Where: Fetch Brewing Company, 100 W Colby St., Whitehall, Michigan 49461
Fetch Fest will take place at Fetch Brewing Company, one of our best-loved Whitehall gems. Head to the big tent in the North Mears parking lot to enjoy this event, which will include delicious food, plenty of live music, and locally-brewed beers from Fetch!
